Teenage girl craze

The wait is over! Jim took Jamie to Borders last night at midnight so she could get her hands on the fourth book in the Twilight series. They only had to wait in line for an hour! Say goodbye to Jamie for a while. She will be locked away in her room until every last page has been turned! Thanks for the birthday gift certificate Uncle Mike and fam...perfect timing! And here are the Twilight toes. I know they look black, but they are a really pretty twilight purple!

The Teahouse Fire

If you can make it through the lesbian love scenes this is an interesting book! Set in 19th century Japan, it discusses the rich Japanese cultural traditions in conflict with spreading Westernization as seen through the lives of women. It reminded me of my 3rd grade Japanese culture unit (minus the lesbian stuff!). I'm the one with the fan!

Three Cups of Tea

Finally finished! This book is the true story of mountaineer Greg Mortenson. After his failed attempt on K2 he dedicates his life to building schools for impoverished children in Pakistan. The story is remarkable and inspiring. However, another trip to the editor might have helped the story move along without countless references to Mortenson's large stature and his girlfriend's full lips (apparently her best quality). A good book, not Krakauer, but good!
